Alliance Quebec 17th Annual Convention

Dear Delegate to Convention,

This year's annual Alliance Quebec convention promises to be exciting and eventful as ever. The usual complement of the following are scheduled:

Special events scheduled to date will be:

  • Unique Dinner/Theatre Entertainment

    (A community Supper and comedy presentation - a rare off-site occasion at conven- tion to include your friends and family.)

  • A Display of Memories of the Ice Storm

    (Your submissions of photos, artwork and writings will he on display as a reminder of how "community action" provides support and security.)

    Details of the workshops are yet to he confirmed, but I assure you that delegates to Convention'98 will have ample opportunity for active participation.

    Policy Plenary:

    Voting delegates will be asked to consider changes to Alliance Quebcc's policies. Our policy manual is the "bible" of the organization; it serves to guide the Board of Directors and Chapters in their activities throughout the year. Resolutions from this session, presided over by the Chairman, will be brought forward to Sunday's Goveming Council.

    Giving the Volunteers what they need.

    Skills sessions on effective meetings, recruitment and volunteer empowerment will take place on Saturday morning.

    Saturday Afternoon

    Our Institutions, the Cornerstones of our Communities:

    Taking the pulse of our schools, hospitals, cultural institutions and volunteer networks.

    This combined plenary and workshop rotation will take a closer look at the estab- lishments that give our communities their staying power and their raison-d'étre. Break-out workshops will hone in on each of the specific areas outlined above. Expert facilitators from our institutional leadership will guide us through the sessions.

    Changes on the Canadian political landscape

    A diverse panel of speakers will stimulate discussion on issues and strategies towards a stronger Canada in the new millennium.

    Insurance

    AQ is not responsible for lost or stolen property. Please ensure that you have a personal travel insurance to cover any possible losses.

    Administration Fee

    If a confirmed delegate does not attend Convention or cancels at the last minutes a $25 administration fee will be charged. This fee covers postage, handling and telephone costs. Medical reasons and death in the family are valid reasons for not attending. The objective of introducing this measure is to help AQ cover Conven- tion costs. This rule will be strictly enforced.

    Car Pools

    Our travel and accommodations policy will be our guideline for approving expenses and we are requesting all participants to assist in, not only conserving energy, but also helping us to cut down on expenses by car-pooling. We encourage you to please contact other members to arrange shared transportation. A shuttle bust will be available from the airport to the hotel, please use it.

    Expense Claims

    All expense claims must be received by June 19, 1998. After this date, Alliance Quebec will not accept any claims.

    Documentation that has been mailed to you prior to Convention

    Please bring with you so that we will not have to duplicate documents that have already been distributed. (ie: Policy and Constitution and By-laws materials.)

    What you need to know when you get to Convention

    The first thing you must do when you arrive at the hotel is to find the registration desk. There you will be given an information package which includes an identifica- tion badge which will allow you entrance to meals (meal tickets will he included in your package for thee meals you checked-off on the registration form ) and events.

    Who will you meet at Convention?

    In addition to members from across the province, you will also be meeting special guests who are concerned about our communities. You will also have an opportu- nity to meet the Executive and the Provincial Board candidates and, as a delegate, you will have the responsibility of voting for the 1998-99 Board of Directors.
